Katie and Michael were married on the 4th February 2015 at All Saints Church, Springfield, followed by a reception at Newland Hall. As they celebrate their third wedding anniversary, the happy couple have some words of advice for anyone currently planning their wedding, as well as providing an insight into their day.

My school friend was dating Michael’s school friend, who he had met whilst attending the army cadets. We were later invited to the same party and it was here that we met. For years, we were just friends before drifting apart until we were reunited 10 years later. We have been together ever since.

How did Michael propose?

I was lucky enough to have two proposals!

The first one was on Halloween where Michael got my God son to dress up as a pumpkin and give me the ring. Due to Michael being fairly young at the time, he decided to redo the proposal in a more traditional / formal way when we went to Egypt on holiday. He hired a private table by the beach, with our own chef and popped the question – it was lovely!

Did you have a theme for your wedding day?

We choose the colour red and our table names were different lorries, to reflect Michael’s profession as a lorry driver. It was great to add our personalities to the day.

My friend was in Cambridge as her husband was working there, so I met her for the day to go shopping. We decided to sneak in a couple of dress shops too. And that’s when I fell in love with my dress!

I have a back tattoo at the top and due to being self conscious about my arms, my idea was to have them slightly covered. I wanted it to be A-line silhouette, have a sweetheart neckline but with lace mesh covering my shoulders. However, I ended up with a strapped lace sweetheart dress, with a modified A-line skirt, so it was more of a princess gown than I had expected. I also had a red Chinese gown for my tea ceremony and I continued to wear this during the meal. I then changed back into my wedding dress for the rest of the evening.

And your bridesmaid dresses?

I had my sister and four of my best friends as my bridesmaids. They had a red semi-sweetheart neckline dress with straps. They were an empire silhouette and had beautiful embellishment along the top.

What did you love most about wedding planning?

I enjoyed going to the different wedding shows and getting lots of ideas. Seeing everything coming together was lovely.

What 3 tips would you offer other brides?

Katie & Michaels Newland Hall Wedding Interview-Tips

  1. Make sure you take time to step back on the day and have a moment to take it all in as the day flies by.
  2. Do what makes you happy. Sometimes it’s hard to please everyone. Remember, it’s your wedding, not theirs.
  3. It’s your day to relax and enjoy everything you have been planning. Let your wedding party and wedding coordinator worry about making sure the day runs smoothly.

How did you choose Marc as your photographer?

Katie & Michael's wedding interview-1

We met Marc at a wedding fair and hit it off straight away. We found that as well as being easy to talk to, he listened and was very friendly. We liked his style of photography and found his packages to be both professional and of excellent quality. We knew it was important to find someone who we felt comfortable with and who would take photos that perfectly reflected our wedding day. We now have a collection of photos that are gorgeous and we can’t wait to show the generation below us. Thank-you Marc!
